Work completed in MSD-RAS Material Agencies Design Studio 2021, co-taught with Robert Stuart-Smith
This semester design studio in the post professional MSD-RAS program focused on agent-based programming, real-time robotics, material simulation and end-effector design and production. Each student group began with a material and procedural investigation, leading them to their unique approach to the project brief - a redevelopment of an architectural threshold condition. Each group studied material production methods using clay, and then developed their own methods ranging from additive manufacturing with non-planar toolpaths and material deposition and deformation in the loop, as well as mat slab deformation using incremental forming techniques. Each group developed robotic end-effectors to fit their project methodology and fabrication techniques - then using their constructed tools to complete a 1:1 prototypical set for their final project delivery, alongside a complete design set ranging from renders, drawings, manufacturing speculations, protype part drawings, algorithmic diagrams, and much more.
